Modal verbs
Today in my English class, we discussed about Modals . It is our main lesson . What are Modal verbs ? Let me explain here , Modals (also called modal verbs, modal auxiliary verbs, modal auxiliaries) are special verbs which behave irregularly in English. They are different from normal verbs like "work, play, visit..." They are used to indicate modality. They give additional information about the function of the main verb that follows it.
In other point of view, We use modals verbs to show if we believe something is certain , probable or possible (or not) . We also use modals to do things like talking about ability, asking permission
or making requests and offers, and so on.
can | could |
may | might |
shall | should |
will | would |
Ability - can / could
Possibility / Probability - would + could+ should
Capability - may / might
Certainty - Might + may + should + must

Tense !!
Madam Baiti teach us a most common lessons that is grammatical tense . I have been taught this lessons since from primmary schools. But i still learning it every year. Every student may share their experience on learning those subjects but im not gonna write my experience that i have been used to it in my life. I’m definitely going to keep challenging myself to write in the present tense until I get it! I would like to share here my point view on abbreviation on Tense !
What is Tense?
tense (noun): a form of a verb used to indicate the time, and sometimes the continuation or completeness, of an action in relation to the time of speaking. (From Latin tempus = time). |
Tense is a method that we use in English to refer to time - past, present and future. Many languages use tenses to talk about time. Other languages have no tenses, but of course they can still talk about time, using different methods.
Tenses
The Present - What you are currently doing.
I eat, I am eating
The Past - What you did some time back.
I ate, I was eating
The Future - What you will do later.
I will eat, I will be eating
In the English language, tenses play an important role in sentence formation.
The tense of a verb shows the time of an event or action.
There are four types of tenses. Simple, Perfect, Continuous and Present Perfect Continuous and each of these has a present, past and future form.
PRESENT TENSES
SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE
In Simple Present, the action is simply mentioned and there is nothing being said about its completeness.
I eat.
I sleep.
I play.
I sleep.
I play.
PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE
In Present Continuous, the action is on-going/ still going on and hence continuous.
I am eating.
I am sleeping.
I am playing.
I am sleeping.
I am playing.
PRESENT PERFECT TENSE
In Present Perfect, the action is complete or has ended and hence termed Perfect.
I have eaten.
I have slept.
I have played.
I have slept.
I have played.
PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE
In Present Perfect Continuous, the action has been taking place for some time and is still ongoing.
I have been eating.
I have been sleeping.
I have been playing.
I have been sleeping.
I have been playing.
PAST TENSES
SIMPLE PAST TENSE
In Simple Past, the action is simply mentioned and understood to have taken place in the past.
I ate.
I slept.
I played.
I slept.
I played.
PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE
In Past Continuous, the action was ongoing till a certain time in the past.
I was eating.
I was sleeping.
I was playing.
I was sleeping.
I was playing.
PAST PERFECT TENSE
Past Perfect is used to express something that happened before another action in the past.
I had eaten.
I had slept.
I had played.
I had slept.
I had played.
PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE
Past Perfect Continuous is used to express something that started in the past and continued until another time in the past.
I had been eating.
I had been sleeping.
I had been playing.
I had been sleeping.
I had been playing.
FUTURE TENSES
SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE
Simple Future is used when we plan or make a decision to do something. Nothing is said about the time in the future.
I will eat.
I will sleep.
I will play.
I will sleep.
I will play.
FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE
The future continuous tense is used to express action at a particular moment in the future. However, the action will not have finished at the moment.
I will be eating at 9 a.m.
I will be sleeping when you arrive.
I will be playing at 5 p.m.
I will be sleeping when you arrive.
I will be playing at 5 p.m.
FUTURE PERFECT TENSE
Future Perfect expresses action that will occur in the future before another action in the future.
I will have eaten before 10 a.m.
I will have slept before you arrive.
I will have played before 6 p.m.
I will have slept before you arrive.
I will have played before 6 p.m.
FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE
Future Perfect Continuous is used to talk about an on-going action before some point in the future.
I will have been sleeping for two hours when you arrive.
I will have been playing for an hour when it is 5 p.m.
I will have been playing for an hour when it is 5 p.m.
So let's improve our own tenses. :)
Project Runway !!
In our 3rd class , Madam Baiti ask us to make a design for project runaway. The task is we need to create a school uniform for secondary school student in Malaysia. So we were been seperated into 7 groups and each of the groups have six members on it .
My group members were Emily, Arvin, Nantha, Jayaram and Am.We design a casual wearing shirt with a pin badge on it . The badge stands for the students name. The reason why we create this badge for both gender students is because it is easy to wear, comfortable, the price is reasonable and its easy tobring anywhere !!
Here are some of the picture were taken when were designing our project .
It has been fun, challenging, and creative but rewarding in knowledge we gain from every step taken.
Each of our members give various of ideas and helping each of us to designing and drawing.
In the end, I will say that I am happy with the time I had with my group and suggest all the readers who are reading this to just think about their experience with the groups with which they have worked . I am you all will find some great moments of happiness and learning for themselves.
The Wall
On 2nd class ( 11 September 2012 ) we learn about the wall. The Wall is a tittle of a poem by Abdul Ghaffar Ibrahim.
Talking about Wall
The first impression when I first saw (not even read it yet) this poem by Abdul Ghafar Ibrahim is ‘WOW’, this is a very unique poem not just from its radical form of writing but also its’ content that only have 5 words in the poem. This poem has no stanza and has one line and words written in box-shape matter however when I read it I can see what the poet wanted to show and actually even a beginner reader of poetry also can see what the poem is all about because the way the word ‘the wall’ is constructed and where the line ‘I cannot escape’ is put show the theme of the poem. I can say that the poet succeed very well in conveying his intentions through this poem and with the least choice of words readers still can feel the persona been trapped in the wall. All I can say is that this poem is so simple yet so powerful and beautiful.
Isn’t it interesting? How to read the poem? This thing come from my mind do I have to rhythm it from the bottom to the upper or “I cannot escape the wall, the wall, the wall, and come with many the wall”. Or “the wall, the wall, the wall, the wall, and the wall I cannot escape”? And the last paragraph do I need to read it like this “the wall llaweht”. So which one I need to read it with? Confusing. But know it doesn’t matter how we read the poem but the main aim for this poem is the thing that act as the wall to us. The barriers that prevent us from doing the thing we want to do. For example maybe the wall is our self. Because sometimes we are preventing our self from doing the thing we want to do, and maybe our parents can be the wall to us. But in my shoes my parents and family is not my wall.
Because I have a good parents and family that always support me in whatever I want to do, and their are also a good adviser. The bigger Wall I have in my life as teenager is myself because sometimes I afraid to speak up to share my point of view with other. Sometimes i feel like I’m not same with their level. Maybe this is not my big wall, because my biggest wall as student is money. I’m always having problem with money because I’m not from rich family, and I have to manage my finance really well. Because if I don’t, then I have to trouble my parent to give me money every week and I don’t want to trouble them. My parent already gives me allowance every month and supposed to be, that money is enough for me. But sometimes I over expensive the money their already given to me.
How i wish I could break down the wall. I really hope when I’m already working so that I can afford myself for the thing I want to have. But I know god really treat their creator fairly. Because even though I’m not as rich as other but I have a really good life. I have a good parent, friend, family and sibling that always by my side when I need them the most. I really appreciate the entire thing I have in my life.
